Victor's Landscaping has been converting Phoenix-metro yards from water-hungry turf to smart desert landscapes since 1999. We pull out the grass, grade the soil, lay decomposed granite, install drip irrigation, and plant native and drought-tolerant species — palo verde, agave, desert marigold, brittlebush — selected for our specific low-desert climate and your yard's sun exposure. The result is a yard that uses a fraction of the water, requires far less weekend maintenance, and holds up through Phoenix summers without looking like a gravel parking lot.

If your city offers a turf-removal rebate, we design the conversion to meet those qualifying requirements — you keep the paperwork and submit on your own. Our licensed crew (Arizona ROC #207713) handles the full job from demo to final cleanup. We serve Peoria, Glendale, Scottsdale, Surprise, Avondale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Sun City, and greater Phoenix. Why Choose Victor’s for Xeriscape Conversion

Lower Water BillsReplacing cool-season turf with native desert plants and drip irrigation can cut your landscape water use dramatically — a meaningful savings in a Valley where summer water bills climb fast.
Rebate-Qualifying DesignWe lay out the conversion to meet your city's turf-removal rebate specifications, so you have what you need when you file — and we point you to your city's program in our rebate guide.
Plants Built for the Sonoran DesertWe select species — palo verde, agave, desert willow, blackfoot daisy — that are proven performers in Phoenix heat and alkali soil, not just generic drought-tolerant plants from a catalog.
Licensed, Local, Family-OwnedVictor's Landscaping has been serving the Phoenix West Valley and metro since 1999 under Arizona ROC #207713 — bonded, insured, and accountable to a reputation built over 865+ reviews.

How It Works

  1. 1Free On-Site AssessmentWe visit your property, measure the turf area, evaluate soil and drainage, and walk through plant and material options so you get a realistic quote tied to your specific yard — not a ballpark from photos.
  2. 2Turf Removal and GradingWe cut out and haul away existing grass and thatch, then grade the exposed soil to direct water away from your foundation and toward your new plants — critical in Phoenix's clay-heavy soils where pooling is a real problem.
  3. 3Drip System and Weed PreventionWe install drip irrigation sized to your plant layout before any rock or mulch goes down. For weeds, we recommend a pre-emergent treatment twice a year — we don't use landscape fabric or weed barriers, which aren't considered best practice for desert landscapes.
  4. 4Plant and Finish Material InstallationWe plant native and drought-tolerant plants at proper spacing and depth for desert survival, then top dress with decomposed granite or other approved materials — leaving your yard clean, stable, and ready to establish.

Xeriscape Conversion FAQs

How much does a xeriscape conversion cost in Phoenix?
Project cost varies by yard size, plant density, and existing irrigation, but most single-family residential conversions in the Phoenix metro run in the range of a few thousand dollars to ten thousand or more for larger properties. A free on-site quote from Victor's will give you a firm number for your specific yard.
Can I get a city rebate for removing my grass?
Many Phoenix-area cities — including Phoenix, Peoria, Scottsdale, and Glendale — offer turf-removal rebates through their water utilities. We design your conversion to meet the qualifying criteria; you submit the rebate application directly with your water provider. See our Arizona turf rebate guide for links to current programs.
What plants do you use in a Phoenix xeriscape?
We work with species that are genuinely suited to low-desert conditions — palo verde, desert willow, agave, saguaro, bougainvillea, lantana, brittlebush, and desert marigold, among others. We select the right mix based on your yard's sun exposure, soil, and how much visual interest you want through the seasons.
How long does a conversion take?
Most residential projects take one to three days depending on yard size and scope. We handle demo, grading, irrigation, and planting in a coordinated sequence so your yard isn't left torn up mid-project.
Is Victor's Landscaping licensed to do this work in Arizona?
Yes — Victor's Landscaping is a licensed Arizona contractor under ROC #207713, bonded and insured, and has been operating in the Phoenix metro since 1999. We pull any required permits and carry the coverage your HOA or property manager may ask for.

What Phoenix-area customers say

We had Victor's update our front and back yards in South Tempe. We are very pleased with the work they did. We worked with Ana to design and pick out plants. We were looking for low water use desert plants. She offered a great selection for us to chose from. The crew that did the demo work, planting, sprinklers and rock were great. Jose and his crew were prompt, professional, effiecent and pleasant to work with. We will now also be using their crew for monthly maintenance and have high hopes that they won't disappoint. But as of now we highly recommend Victor's for your landscaping needs.

Irrigation & Sprinklers
We have Victor's Landscaping spray our olive tree every year to reduce the amount of olives it produces. Very happy with their sevice. Last summer the shrubs in front of our house succumed to aphids. These were 20 year old Indian Hawthornes with very large trunks and deep roots. In less than an hour the Victor's team had all 20 feet removed and the ground raked. The even raked up the olive leaves from the gravel and pruned another 20 feet of Yellow Bells in the back yard from 8 feet tall down to 4 feet. We would highly recommend them to anyone!
